How to sync Strava with Apple Health

Yes, in both directions. With Send to Health on, Strava writes your activities to Apple Health with activity type, distance, time, calories and, for activities recorded in Strava, the route. With Automatic Uploads on, it imports workouts recorded in Apple's Workout app.

Key caveats: Strava imports only native Apple Workout app sessions from the last 30 days, and routes from Garmin, Zwift and other third-party uploads aren't sent to Health. If your device also writes to Health directly, Send to Health causes duplicates.

How to connect Strava to Apple Health

5 steps on your iPhone, about two minutes.

Before you start

  • iPhone with the Strava app
  • Health permission for Strava with Workouts & Routes enabled
  • For importing: workouts recorded with the Apple Workout app (iOS 17+ / watchOS 10+ for power and cadence)
  1. Open Strava settings

Strava app → You tab → settings (gear) icon in the upper corner.

    1. Strava app
    2. You tab
  2. Connect Health

Manage Apps and Devices → Health → tap the + icon → Connect.

    2. Health
    3. + icon
    4. Connect
  3. Grant permissions

On the Health Access screen, turn on Workouts & Routes (required for anything to sync) plus the other categories you want, then tap Allow.

  4. Choose the direction

Back in Settings → Manage Apps and Devices → Health: turn on Send to Health to write Strava activities to Apple Health, and/or Automatic Uploads to import Apple Workout app sessions. Optionally turn on notifications for new workouts.

  5. Change permissions later

Health app → profile → Privacy: Apps → Strava, or iPhone Settings → Apps → Health → Data Access & Devices → Strava.

After setup

Strava sends a new activity to Health after it's saved or uploaded to Strava. Opening Strava and pulling down on the You feed triggers the transfer. Imports from Apple Health also happen when Strava is open, and you get a notification for each successful or failed automatic sync. Missed Apple Workout sessions can be imported by hand under Manage Apps and Devices → Health → Import, but only for the last 30 days.

Avoid double-counting

Duplicates come from two writers saving the same activity. If Garmin, Wahoo, Peloton or Zwift already writes to Apple Health, or you recorded on Apple Watch, and that service also uploads to Strava, then Send to Health writes it again. Fix: keep exactly one writer per activity. Usually that means turning off Send to Health in Strava (Settings → Manage Apps and Devices → Health) and letting the device's own app write to Health. If Strava is your only recorder (Strava app on iPhone or Watch), keep Send to Health on. Source priority (Health → Browse → category → Data Sources & Access → Edit) dedups calories and distance, but duplicate workout entries must be deleted by hand in Health → Browse → Activity → Workouts → Show All Data.

Put Strava first in Apple Health

  1. Health
  2. Browse
  3. Activity
  4. Steps
  5. Data Sources & Access
  6. Edit
  1. Open the Health app and tap Browse.
  2. Choose a category and a data type, for example Activity → Steps.
  3. Scroll down and tap Data Sources & Access.
  4. Tap Edit, then touch and hold the handle next to your device’s app and drag it to the top.
  5. Tap Done. Repeat for other data types you track with more than one device, such as Active Energy or Walking + Running Distance.

The source at the top wins when several write the same data type. New apps and devices are added at the top automatically. Apple Support ↗

Strava not syncing to Apple Health?

Strava activities don't appear in Apple Health

Check that Send to Health is on, then force-close the Health app, open Strava and pull down on the You feed to refresh (Strava's fix). Confirm Workouts is allowed for Strava in Health → profile → Privacy: Apps → Strava.

Apple Watch workout won't import into Strava

It must be recorded with Apple's Workout app and be under 30 days old. Tap Import next to it in Settings → Manage Apps and Devices → Health. If it says imported but is missing, delete any Strava activity with the same date and time and import again.

Workout isn't listed for import

Tap Connect with Health in Strava's Health settings, then iPhone Settings → Apps → Health → Data Access & Devices → Strava and turn on all categories.

Garmin/Zwift rides in Health have no map

That's expected. Strava doesn't send route data for activities recorded by another company's app. Let that company's app write the route to Health instead.

Every ride shows twice in Health

Your device app and Strava both write it. Turn off Send to Health in Strava, or turn off Workouts for the device app in Health, and delete the extras.

Power or cadence missing on imported Apple Watch rides

Needs iOS 17+, watchOS 10+ and a current Strava version. Allow all categories for Strava in Health, then reconnect Health in Strava (Settings → Manage Apps and Devices → Health) even if it was connected before.

Strava and Apple Health: questions

Does Strava sync with Apple Health?

Yes, both ways: Send to Health writes Strava activities to Health, and Automatic Uploads imports Apple Workout app sessions into Strava.

Does Strava read workouts from Apple Health that other apps recorded?

No. Strava only imports workouts recorded with Apple's Workout app (last 30 days). Workouts other apps saved to Health are ignored.

Does Strava send heart rate to Apple Health?

Strava's help center lists route, activity type, distance, time and calories, not heart rate.

Why doesn't my Garmin route show in Apple Health via Strava?

Strava doesn't forward routes from third-party uploads. Garmin Connect can write the workout with its route to Health itself.

Should I turn on Send to Health if my Garmin already syncs to Health?

No. Then every activity appears twice. Use one writer only.

Do Apple Fitness+ workouts sync to Strava?

Yes, through the same Health link (iOS 18.2+ / watchOS 11.2+), with class name and trainer.
