How to sync Zwift with Apple Health

Not officially. Apple Health isn't on Zwift's list of platforms that receive activity data, and Zwift staff call the link unsupported. The reliable route is to connect Zwift to Strava or Garmin Connect and let that app write the ride to Health.

Key caveats: the iOS Zwift and Companion apps can still register as Health writers, and users report inflated Active Energy and distance from them. Zwift also says Apple Watch isn't compatible as a heart-rate monitor.

How to connect Zwift to Apple Health

4 steps on your iPhone, about two minutes.

Before you start

  • Zwift account and the Zwift Companion app (or zwift.com) to manage Connections
  • A Strava or Garmin Connect account that writes to Apple Health (or an app such as HealthFit/RunGap to import Zwift .FIT files)
  • A Bluetooth LE or ANT+ heart-rate strap if you want heart rate in the ride file
  1. Connect Zwift to Strava or Garmin

Zwift Companion → More (iOS) → Settings → Connections → tap + next to Strava or Garmin → sign in → authorize. Or go to zwift.com/settings/connections → Connect.

    2. More
    3. Settings
    4. Connections
    5. + next to Strava or Garmin
    6. sign in
  2. Let that app write to Health

Strava: You → settings → Manage Apps and Devices → Health → connect and turn on Send to Health. Garmin Connect: enable its Apple Health integration.

  3. Stop direct Zwift writes (optional)

If you see inflated Active Energy or distance, Health app → profile → Privacy: Apps → Zwift and Zwift Companion → turn off categories.

    3. Privacy: Apps
    4. Zwift and Zwift Companion
  4. Alternative: Apple Watch workout

To close Activity rings, start an Indoor Cycle workout in the Apple Watch Workout app at the same time as the ride. Then don't also send the Zwift ride to Health through Strava, or it counts twice.

Menu names checked against Zwift’s help pages on October 27, 2026. Apps change; if a menu looks different, see the sources below.

After setup

Zwift uploads the activity to connected platforms automatically after you save it, though timing varies by platform. Strava then sends it to Health the next time Strava refreshes; open Strava and pull down on the You feed to trigger that. Routes don't come through this path. If an upload is missing, download the .FIT file from Zwift and upload it to the platform by hand.

Avoid double-counting

Common doubles: (1) an Apple Watch Indoor Cycle workout plus the same ride sent to Health by Strava; (2) Zwift → Garmin Connect → Health plus Zwift → Strava → Health; (3) Zwift on iOS writing several cumulative Active Energy and distance entries per ride (a known issue since 2024, still open). Fix: choose one path into Health. Either record on the Watch and turn off Strava's Send to Health (it can't be limited to Zwift rides only), or skip the Watch workout and let Strava or Garmin write it. Don't do both. Turn off write permissions for Zwift and Zwift Companion in Health → profile → Privacy: Apps. For Active Energy, also put Apple Watch first in Health → Browse → Activity → Active Energy → Data Sources & Access → Edit. Zwift also notes that duplicate activities can appear in its own history when a third-party device is connected; delete them in Companion.

Put Zwift / Zwift Companion first in Apple Health

  1. Health
  2. Browse
  3. Activity
  4. Steps
  5. Data Sources & Access
  6. Edit
  1. Open the Health app and tap Browse.
  2. Choose a category and a data type, for example Activity → Steps.
  3. Scroll down and tap Data Sources & Access.
  4. Tap Edit, then touch and hold the handle next to your device’s app and drag it to the top.
  5. Tap Done. Repeat for other data types you track with more than one device, such as Active Energy or Walking + Running Distance.

The source at the top wins when several write the same data type. New apps and devices are added at the top automatically. Apple Support ↗

Zwift not syncing to Apple Health?

Apple Health is not in Zwift's Connections list

That's expected. Zwift only lists adidas, Garmin, MapMyFitness, Strava, TechnoGym, Wahoo, WTRL and ZwiftPower as activity destinations. Use Strava or Garmin to reach Health.

Active Energy or distance in Health is several times too high after a ride

This is a known Zwift iOS issue: Zwift writes running totals repeatedly. Turn off Zwift's and Zwift Companion's write permissions in Health, delete the extra entries (Browse → Activity → Active Energy → Show All Data), and route rides through Strava/Garmin.

Zwift keeps writing to Health after permissions are off

Users reported this in Dec 2025. Re-check both Zwift and Zwift Companion under Health → profile → Privacy: Apps, update the apps, and delete stray samples. Report it to Zwift support.

Can I use Apple Watch as my heart-rate monitor in Zwift?

Zwift says Apple Watch isn't currently compatible. Use any Bluetooth LE or ANT+ strap, or a trainer that relays heart rate.

Zwift ride doesn't close my Move ring

Rides that come in through Strava or Companion may not credit Activity rings like a Watch workout does. Start an Apple Watch Indoor Cycle workout alongside the ride, and don't also send the ride to Health from Strava.

Ride didn't upload to Strava or Garmin

Disconnect and reconnect the platform in Companion → Settings → Connections or at zwift.com/settings/connections. Enable cookies and JavaScript, or upload the .FIT file manually.

Zwift and Apple Health: questions

Does Zwift sync with Apple Health?

Not officially. Zwift doesn't list Apple Health as a destination. Send rides to Strava or Garmin Connect and let that app write them to Health.

How do I get Zwift rides into Apple Health?

Connect Zwift to Strava, then turn on Send to Health in Strava. Or use Garmin Connect, or import the .FIT file with an app like HealthFit or RunGap.

Does Zwift work with Apple Watch?

Zwift states Apple Watch isn't currently compatible as a heart-rate source. You can still record a separate Watch workout for your rings.

Why are my Zwift calories doubled in Apple Health?

Two writers (Apple Watch plus Strava or Garmin) or Zwift's own repeated Active Energy writes. Keep one writer and remove the others' permissions.

Will the route map show in Apple Health?

No. Strava doesn't forward routes from third-party apps like Zwift, and virtual routes aren't real GPS tracks anyway.
