How to sync Suunto with Apple Health

Partly. The Suunto iPhone app can save workouts with heart rate, and reportedly steps, distance and active energy, to Apple Health; Suunto's App Store listing says only 'Go to app settings to start sharing your data.'

Key caveats: sleep, HRV, resting heart rate, SpO2, respiratory rate, VO2 max and GPS routes are not written. Suunto publishes no list of synced data types.

After setup

Workouts are saved to Apple Health after the watch syncs a new activity to the Suunto app. Suunto does not document timing for daily data; community reports say steps and daily heart rate are incomplete.

Avoid double-counting

With an iPhone or Apple Watch also writing to Health, set priorities: Health app → Browse → Activity → Steps → Data Sources & Access → Edit → drag Suunto (or your other device) to the top → Done; do the same for Heart Rate and Active Energy. If missing Suunto data is the issue, members of Suunto's forum advise making Suunto the preferred source for steps, workouts and heart rate.

Put Suunto first in Apple Health

  1. Health
  2. Browse
  3. Activity
  4. Steps
  5. Data Sources & Access
  6. Edit
  1. Open the Health app and tap Browse.
  2. Choose a category and a data type, for example Activity → Steps.
  3. Scroll down and tap Data Sources & Access.
  4. Tap Edit, then touch and hold the handle next to your device’s app and drag it to the top.
  5. Tap Done. Repeat for other data types you track with more than one device, such as Active Energy or Walking + Running Distance.

The source at the top wins when several write the same data type. New apps and devices are added at the top automatically. Apple Support ↗

Suunto not syncing to Apple Health?

Suunto workouts are not appearing in Apple Health

Sync the watch to the Suunto app, check the 'Save to Apple Health' setting is on, and enable every category under Health → profile → Apps → Suunto.

Sleep is not in Apple Health

The Suunto app does not request permission to write sleep, so it cannot sync. Long-standing open request in Suunto's community.

Workout map/route is missing

Users report that the Suunto app writes no GPS route. Third-party apps such as RunGap (free; export needs its paid tier) can copy Suunto workouts with routes into Health.

Daily steps or heart rate have gaps

Make Suunto the top source for Steps and Heart Rate in Data Sources & Access; users still report gaps, so treat daily data from Suunto as incomplete.

Watch won't sync to the Suunto app at all

Update the watch and app, turn Bluetooth on, open the Suunto app's sync view and re-pair the watch with the passkey shown on it.
